Scientists have accidentally created the thinnest in the world of glass

The thinnest in the world, nearly two-dimensional, glass accidentally got a team of scientists from the U.S., Europe and India. This material can then be used as a semiconductor in graphene transistors.

So say the authors of the work, the article which was published in the journal Nano Letters, RIA Novosti reported.
Physicists have synthesized a new ... Its use is considered, can lead to a revolution in microelectronics.
The researchers collected a graphene mechanically, using a quartz plate with the deposited copper coating on it. Random air into the sealed environment, where it was planned to obtain graphene, caused a series of chemical reactions, resulting in a very fine glass thickness up to three atoms.
... Thanks to a thickness of three atoms, it actually exists as a plane - in two dimensions, ...
However, according to scientists, the new material looks ... Image obtained with an electron microscope, resembles the drawings of an American scientist and theoretician Frederick Zakkarayzena, trying to visualize the atomic structure of glass in 1932.
Researchers believe that the resulting ultra-thin material can serve as an element of graphene transistors.
